Caraquet, Wednesday, May 1, 2018 – Carl Lepage-Villeneuve, sommelier of famed Montréal restaurant Toqué! and named Canada’s Top Sommelier, will be on hand at the Grand Tastings, June 1 and 2, as part of the FestiVin de Caraquet. Festivalgoers will have the opportunity to attend workshops and learn a little more about wines on a guided tour of booths led by this great sommelier.

This year’s wine festival features a wide array of new products. More than 40 exhibitors will be introducing wine lovers to their newest arrivals (some 80% of the wines will be new). The NB Liquor Boutique and its ephemeral wine shop will be back with 86 new wine offerings. The shop, located outside the Grand Tastings, will be open to all (no ticket purchase required) on Friday, June 1, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. The organizing committee is proud to announce the replacement of the Wine Cellar with the creation of a VIP section offering an improved selection of wines and a full view of the show. FestiVin 2018 promises to be another beautiful summer experience in Caraquet!

On this year’s program: the ever-popular seminars! Each year, the organizing committee puts extra effort into offering its gastronomic evenings throughout the entire Acadian Peninsula.

The activities begin on Tuesday, May 22, at Le Nouvo Caveau Restaurant in Paquetville, with a seminar on bold cuisine hosted by Olivier Godbout, chef of Québec City’s La Planque Restaurant. On Friday, May 25, FestiVin continues with a second seminar on French cuisine at the Grain de folie Café with sommelier Claude Mercier. On Saturday, May 26, why not lace up your runners and join in the Wine Race? Participants can sign up for the wine run at Le Panaché Restaurant starting at 1 p.m. On Sunday, May 27, the Château d’Acadie Restaurant in Tracadie will be serving a champagne brunch hosted by Christian Léger of the Maison Vignes Leger. On Monday, May 28, it’s the popular sushi workshop at the CCNB’s Caraquet Campus with chef Sylvie Laramée and sommelier Anthony Paillet. Later that evening, the Pinokkio Restaurant in Shippagan will provide a warm and inviting setting for an evening of culinary experiences with chef Benjamin Cormier and best-selling author of wine guides Mario Griffin. On Wednesday, May 30, Le Kabernet Restaurant in Lamèque will serve up an evening of Maritime flavours, with an opportunity to discover the wines of Maison Benjamin Bridge. On Thursday, May 31, the newly opened Origines Restaurant, featuring maritime fare in Caraquet, will host the traditional Prestige Evening. This esteemed event will highlight the flavours of Italy under the direction of chef Benjamin Cormier, accompanied by Javier Rodriguez of the famed Maison Banfi. Finally, on Saturday, June 2, it’s a not-to-be-missed Happy Hour with Carl Lepage-Villeneuve, Canada’s Top Sommelier!
